Never Give Up{Jaystorm}
{Flarespark} And Never Surrender!
Jaystorm sat in the center of RiverClan. It was a misty morning, the thin wisps of moisture still untouched by the sun's rays. He sat so still, not even the tip of his tail twitched. His ice-blue eyes watched, seemingly uninterested, in the shifting of the surrounding mists. He could almost pick out pictures, somewhere in the building and flitting images. But before he could register what he saw, the misty image would dissipitate, chased away by either a passing breeze or falling apart for no reason.
But the story-telling mists were distracting him from his real goal. For the first time, he shut his eyes and listened. He could hear the frantic beating of some little rodent's heart, quickened in fear. 'Have peace, dear vole,' he thought, unnaturally calm for what he knew was coming, 'I have no intention of killing you today.' He pushed the sound out of his mind, shoving it aside smoothly. He could also hear the fluttering of a bird, hidden in the tree-tops so near. He could have easily sprang right then, if he was hunting. But the ex-loner was not hunting. Almost impatiently, he shoved that sound away as well.
He barely heard the tell-tale sound of soft pads against the earth before his eyes opened with frightening intensity. He whirled around just as the battle yowl sounded, and a ginger bolt streaked toward him. Jaystorm met the bolt head on, his own lips drawn back in a feral snarl. The two cats, both toms, rolled around in a silent battle before Jaystorm managed to flip the cat onto it's back. Jaystorm placed at restraining paw against the intruder's neck, holding him still.
Instead of an angry hiss, a chuckle left the black warrior. "Better." He announced, removing his paw from the neck of his son. Flarespark sprang up, an indignant scowl on his muzzle. "I barely heard you coming that time. But you're still rushing your charge. Stalking a cat is no different than stalking, say, a rabbit. Our species are more likely to hear or scent an attack coming than feel it. Wait until you're within striking distance, then..." He leaped onto Flarespark.
Flarespark grumbled, not even trying to remove his father from on top of him. If he didn't have better control over his expression, Jaystorm was sure Flarespark would have been pouting. "You were distracted by the vole and the robin." He protested angrily. "If you had actually been paying attention, you would have flayed my pelt."
Jaystorm nodded, not denying it. "But then again, that's me. My life as a loner has taught me to always be cautious. When you fight, don't ask questions, or double-guess your judgment. You may not have enough time to come up with a new plan." He let Flarepark up once more before chuckling. "Perhaps, though, we should actually hunt instead of trying again. I told your mother that I'd stop training you after you got your warrior name."
