Growing Old Is Mandatory. Growing Up Is Optional. ~Flamepelt
Sunlight glittered through the trees, making the dew sparkle on the grass. A tiny brown mouse sat on the ground, nibbling on a beechnut. It was unaware of the shadow behind it, growing larger and larger as it slowly crept up on the woodland creature. Blue eyes looked like chips of ice against the orange tabby fur of the tom-cat. Then, without a sound, the tabby leaped. The kill was silent but deadly, and the tom turned around, showing off his catch proudly.
After missing two doves and squirrel, Flamepelt had finally caught some prey. He wasn't a very good hunter, but then again, he also hated bloodshed of any kind. He looked at two smaller cats, a pale brown tabby she-cat with lighter blue eyes, and a black tom with yellow-amber eyes. Flamepelt waited for a reaction from the two apprentices, Hazelpaw and Pantherpaw, before continuing the hunt beneath the large beechnut tree.Word Count: 221 Muse: Uber Epic!(Sorta) Notes: And Here We Are! Pantherpaw had only slowed down once he caught up with the enthusiastic warrior. He had to bite back critiquing his hunting skills, though he could feel the helpful advice bubbling at the tip of his tongue. He had to remind himself of his place as an apprentice and just stood there quietly as he watched the two doves flutter out of the cat's claws and the squirrel dash up the tree.
Flameclaw had finally made a catch and the black apprentice put on a smile and gave a polite dip of his head. "Good catch," he meowed. He looked from the warrior before him to Hazelpaw before clearing his throat. "Alright, well if you'll excuse me," he mumbled. He watched Flamepelt slip away to hunt beneath the beech tree and looked back to his denmate.
"Hazelpaw, do you want to hunt with me or Flamepelt or do you want to go by yourself?" he asked. Sometimes when you came across prey like rabbits, it helped to have more then one cat. One to wait and another to chase the rabbit into the waiting claws of the other cat. Of course, perhaps Hazelpaw wanted to go with the warrior who had more experience or just hunt by herself. His tail brushed gently back and forth across the short grass they stood on as he waited for her to answer.

Hazelpaw padded slowly after her companions, jaws open as she scented for prey. Squirrels, birds... and something else... The day really had turned out beautiful. The sun was high in the sky now, and the cold wind had changed to a warm breeze.
The tabby shrugged through the ferns where Pantherpaw disappeared ahead of her, and her eyes locked on a mouse dangling from Flamepelt's jaws. Mouse; that was the scent she didn't identify. "Ah, finally! Nice catch," she purred, her voice saturated with laughter. Pantherpaw meowed his congratulations, and she watched the warrior continue his hunt beneath a tall beechnut.
"Hazelpaw, do you want to hunt with me or Flamepelt or do you want to go by yourself?" Hazelpaw turned her gaze to the other apprentice at his inquiry. She didn't like the thought of being alone, and wasn't hunting always more fun with partners? "Why don't we all stay together?" she mewed, her tail twitching thoughtfully. "It may be easier in a group, and I'd like to get to know you two better." Word Count: 180 Muse: I'll give it an 8/10 Notes: Sorry it took me so long to reply! Got grounded for a few days, bleh. o.e

"Good catch," the black apprentice meowed. The large tabby didn't catch the rest as he went to the other side of the birch tree, racing after a squirrel.
Slow down ya' stupid squirrel! He thought as the brown rodent leaped at a nearby oak tree. "Oh no you don't!" he growled as he leaped at the tree. Face collided with bark as Flamepelt missed the squirrel. "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow." he muttered under his breath, his face searing with pain.Word Count: 118 Muse: Fail Notes: Finally Posted!

Hazelpaw's eyes wandered in the direction where Flamepelt dashed behind the tree, and jumped slightly at the sound of impact. She stole a glace at the black apprentice beside her before trotting around the tree trunk. She had to hold back laughter as she realized the older warrior has collided with the beechnut. "Are you alright?" she meowed, ears twitching and tail waving with her suppressed amusement. Word Count: 70 Muse: It must be on vacation or something...

The black apprentice almost looked disappointed when Hazelpaw suggested that they all stay together. If the prey doesn't hear all three of us coming, then it will smell us and if it doesn't then it's just completely stupid, he thought with a sigh as he shuffled off after the tabby she-cat and warrior.
He gave Flamepelt a strange stare when he ran into the tree and merely stood there, watching him like he'd just witnessed a kit trying seriously to hunt which contrasted with Hazelpaw's attempt to hide her amusement. Pantherpaw couldn't understand how Flamepelt's mentor wouldn't have addressed the poor hunting skills, but it was too late for that now. Flamepelt was a warrior and, if he had the mindset of any other warrior Pantherpaw knew, he wouldn't take kindly to criticism.
The uptight apprentice allowed a small smile, some of Hazelpaw's lightheartedness at the situation creeping into his own reactions as he watched Flamepelt and waited for him to answer the other apprentice's question.

"Are you alright?" the she-cat meowed, ears twitching and tail waving with amusement. The black apprentice allowed a small smile.
He wiggled his unusually black nose, sore, but not broken. Flamepelt then turned to Hazelpaw with a smile of embarrassment. "Er-Yeah!" He then cast a quick glance at the squirrel munching a beechnut happily on a high branch. He grimaced at the sight of the missed fresh-kill.Word Count: 114 Muse: GAAH! IT BURNS! Notes: I'M BACK!
